The Foundation set forth this year to support key initiatives, including a groundbreaking academic endeavor. In response to a projected state and national physician shortage, Hackensack University Health Network joined with Seton Hall University to form a new, four-year school of medicine. This joint venture to create a premier academic institution will provide educational, research and career opportunities for the next generation of physicians through collaboration and innovation. Friends and supporters of HackensackUMC who share our vision have contributed more than $10.5 million, this year, to this vital initiative.
Through the extraordinary generosity of our benefactors, we are creating the following endowed chairs:
Justice Garibaldi’s dedicated service as a Planned Giving program volunteer leader is another part of her legacy. In 2015, the Planned Giving program raised more than $5 million.
Our Grants division engaged more clinical staff and medical leaders with a comprehensive focus on the transformational potential of securing state, national and federal grants. Initiatives include Ebola preparedness and response plans, the creation of a medical home for treating patients with autism, and pediatric neuro-oncology research. Funds raised through grants totaled $6.2 million in 2015.
In our philanthropic endeavor to Tackle Kids Cancer, HackensackUMC teamed up with Eli Manning and the New York Giants to support research at the Children’s Cancer Institute, Joseph M. Sanzari Children’s Hospital at HackensackUMC. Funds raised through Tackle Kids Cancer are dedicated to programs at the Institute, including: Pediatric Neuro-oncology, Developmental Therapeutics, Cancer Genetics, Transplant Clinical Trials, and the Cure and Beyond Program. To date, more than 1,000 donors have contributed more than $1.6 million to support this initiative.
