HackensackUMC Palisades

HackensackUMC Palisades is well positioned to meet the challenges of the new healthcare environment. We are proud to report that 2015 represented significant accomplishments thanks to the efforts and contributions provided by our medical staff, employees, volunteers and community partners. Our recent merger with HackensackUMC, the clinical improvements and achievements this past year, the growth of our Graduate Medical Education Program and commitment to quality positions us for success in the future. The Harborage continues to earn national recognition for providing the highest quality long-term care in a positive and compassionate setting.

In 2015, Palisades opened its new on-campus Medical Office Building. This 57,000-square-foot facility provides state-of-the-art ambulatory and specialty care services for residents that previously had to travel outside of our local communities for services. The Medical Office Building includes the John Theurer Cancer Center, the Palisades Women’s Group, a dialysis center, Sleep-Wake Center and other specialties. In the coming year, new HackensackUMC clinical institutes will also be represented in the Medical Office Building.

In addition, we have also renovated all of Palisades’ Patient Care Units to optimize comfort, safety, privacy and care of patients. The new units feature all-new furnishings, and nursing stations have also been updated to strengthen patient monitoring.

Preparing the next generation of physicians brings vibrancy to our medical center and enhances our efforts to provide quality healthcare. Our robust Graduate Medical Education Program has been expanded to include 117 residents that specialize in dermatology, family medicine, internal medicine, general surgery, obstetrics and gynecology, podiatry, and a gastroenterology fellowship. All specialties embrace a curriculum that emphasizes compassionate medical care, an active role in patient advocacy and community service. Ultimately, many of our program graduates will continue to serve the residents of our local communities.

We are proud of our community relationships and the value they provide our medical center. We work closely with our community stakeholders (i.e., community and faith-based organizations) along with our first responders to help identify community health needs and services. This collaborative relationship facilitates our ability to be proactive addressing issues and opportunities, and enables us to respond in a productive and timely fashion.

Thanks to these collaborative efforts, Palisades was ranked among the top hospitals in the state by Inside Jersey magazine and Castle Connolly Medical Ltd. for the second year in a row. The American Heart Association and American Stroke Association also recognized Palisades with their 2015 Get With The Guidelines® Gold-Plus Quality Achievement Awards for the Medical Center’s treatment of heart failure and stroke patients. Modern Healthcare magazine has also recognized Palisades with its Best Places to Work in Healthcare Award, honoring our talented and dedicated healthcare professionals that have helped us build a culture in which employees are always supported and engaged. The Harborage was honored as a Top Nursing Home by U.S. News & World Report and also received a 5-star rating from both the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services and the New Jersey Department of Health and Senior Services.

Our affiliation with Hackensack University Health Network has provided our community residents with access to exceptional specialty services in their own backyard. We are very proud to partner with the leading healthcare organization in the region - and we are excited with the opportunity it represents to improve the health of our communities.

This year, the opening of the new John Theurer Cancer Center at Palisades enables patients to now receive the same world-class cancer care available at the John Theurer Cancer Center at HackensackUMC on our campus. This outpatient facility will help provide state-of-the-art cancer care to Hudson County and southern Bergen County patients in need of cancer treatment annually.

Also, HackensackUMC Palisades now features a Neonatal Level 2 Nursery, as part of our affiliation with HackensackUMC. Parents-to-be that come to Palisades can feel confident in knowing that they will receive the highest-quality care in our Maternity Center and in our Neonatal Level 2 Nursery, should health problems arise.

And the excitement of what we can provide our community is just beginning. Working with our partners and Hackensack University Health Network, we will continue to evolve to meet the expanding healthcare needs of our growing communities. In the coming years, Hackensack University Health Network will provide significant resources toward our medical center which will improve our physical plant, enhance quality and provide local access to more specialty services.

When it matters most, our combined efforts will enable us to take medicine further than ever before. Palisades is entering a new era of healthcare for our community where medicine meets innovation, and we are committed to providing you more.
